The Singapore Environment Council (SEC) is the organizer for
the inaugural Singapore G1 event, an eco-friendly spoof of
the Formula 1 (F1) race which pitches electric vehicles and
greener technology in a fun manner.
A convoy of green vehicles
including evHUB’s electric vehicles and a group of cyclists,
led by SEC Executive Director Howard Shaw, smoothly made
their way from SEC headquarters to Shaw House on Orchard
Road after being flagged off by Dr. Teo Ho Pin, mayor of
Singapore’s NW District. Ms. Isabella Loh, chairman of SEC
sat in evHUB’s electric Porsche closely followed by Mr.
George Huang (SEC Advisor & President of the Singapore
Manufacturer’s Federation) and Dr. Teo Ho Ping (Guest of
Honor) in the electric BMW.
The convoy arrived at the Shaw
House Events Plaza area where the organizers had set up a
tented stage, soapbox car display stand and ramp, pledge
taking board, and an electric vehicle display area. evHUB’s
converted EVs were prominently displayed next to two
electric quadracycles from Toyota and received lots of
attention and inquiries from amazed event participants,
passersby and the attending local media.
“The Singapore G1 is the first green event that takes place
as a lead up to the F1. It engages the whole community, both
young and old, and it will be great fun going green!” said
Ms Isabella Loh, Chairman of SEC.
Providing more information on the Singapore G1, Mr Howard
Shaw, Executive Director, SEC added, “We are witnessing a
revolution in transport sectors in our need to transform
into a low carbon economy. However the vast majority of
scientists agree that this revolution is taking place at a
rate that is too slow if we are to meet emissions targets
required to prevent catastrophic changes in global
temperatures. The Singapore G1 aims to act as a catalyst to
change and drive the shifting paradigm of the transport
industry by stimulating consumer interest. In the medium
term we hope that the Singapore G1 will become the
pioneering green motorsports event and that this will then
catch on in the region.”

Established in 1995, the Singapore Environment Council (SEC)
is an independently managed, non-government organisation
that nurtures, facilitates and co-ordinates environmental
causes in Singapore. SEC’s work is founded on three pillars
of action – Firstly, partnership with the people, private
and public sectors of Singaporean society, to nurture a
culture aligned with sustainable development concepts.
Secondly, SEC rewards environmental excellence through
awards schemes and product endorsement programmes, such as
the Singapore Green Labelling Scheme. Thirdly, the SEC
collaborates with partners to develop and implement training
and learning programmes to build competencies in
environmental sustainability within companies, thus keeping
our business leaders ahead of the curve.
